参考译文

The lion dance has been a traditional Chinese folk art for more than 2,000 years. In the lion dance, two performers share a lion costume, one moving the head and the other moving the body and tail. They skillfully cooperate to imitate the various movements of a lion. As the king of beasts, the lion symbolizes happiness and good luck, so people usually perform lion dances during the Spring Festival and other festivals. Lion dances can also be seen on other important occasions, such as store openings and wedding ceremonies, which often attract many people to watch.

难点注释

1. 翻译第一句时,“作为中国传统民间表演”可以用be a traditional Chinese folk art来表达,也可以用“as+名词短语”来表达;“已有2,000多年历史”可译为has been...for more than 2,000 years。

4. 第四句前半句中“兽中之王”和“象征幸福和好运”是因果关系,可处理成“状语+主干”结构,译为“As/Being the king of beasts, the lion symbolizes/is symbolic of/a symbol of...”或“The lion is the king of beasts, symbolizing...”。

5. 第五句相对较长,“出现在其他重要场合”可处理为主干,还可译为is also likely to occur on other important occasions;“往往……”是结果,可处理为非限制性定语从句;“许多人”在此处指很多观众,故后面部分还可译为which tend to attract/more often than not attract a large audience。
